Inspiration & Philosophy Golf has achieved the status of a popular sport and its appreciation of fashion is growing. In general, two contradictory tendencies can be observed. On one hand, liberalization is progressing and young golf fans are creating new silhouettes and cross-looks as well as borrowing elements from college clothing and other sports such as rugby and sailing. Borrowings from the area of safari and military can also be seen. As a counterpoint, more traditionally oriented golfers are seeking to set themselves off from such "golf punks". This is expressed in a clear upgrading of looks and an affinity for premium products. This high-quality neo-classic is finding inspiration in British gentlemen's clubs as well in the looks of the 50s and 60s.
Cuts / Shapes / Materials The more relaxed faction is increasingly integrating parts of everyday clothing in their style. Relaxed web shirt shapes underline the laissez-faire touch. Chino and cargo pants are appearing more on the scene among men while fashionable lady golfers wear sporty skirts or clothes made of cooltech piqué. Shirt variants and skirts with straps are especially casual. College shapes, blouses and light bomber jackets dominate in the jacket sector. A mixture of different textures is new, for example, intricate quilting on the front and knitted insets on the back. Straw hats and even porkpies create an extra touch of individualism. Silver Lurex threads, foil imprints and patches appear as stylish details. For traditionally oriented golfers, classics such as deep V-neck pullovers, pullunders, sporty suit jackets and intricately knitted vests are experiencing a revival. Retro borrowings are seen in high-quality embroidery of logos and coats of arms. Wellness features are becoming increasingly important, for example, special pocket ventilation systems, innovative windstoppers and airtech properties. Equipment such as UV and anti-mosquito protection are becoming standard. Accessories are valued as an expression of status; handbags and golf bags are appearing in super-soft leather quality, often perforated or with intricate seams. Shoes with abstract Budapest patterns and in part with two-tone combinations are setting accents. Among the materials, summer cashmere, fine knits, bamboo blends, feel-good knits and New French Terry as well as herringbone and corduroy are in the forefront.
Colors / Patterns Argyles and extravagant checks in bright colors remain a must, but classic Black Watch checks are also celebrating a comeback. Pinstripes, color blockings and soft camouflage variants make the collections younger, and paisleys are getting a make-over. The use of precious metal hues such as ice-silver, gold and copper is new, but mostly still in the form of sensibly dosed accents.
There will be a large selection of golf fashion trends at GOLF EUROPE 2007, which will take place on the grounds of the New Munich Trade Fair Centre from 7 to 9 October 2007.
